PET  OF  THE  MONTH     We adopted Nick, our beloved Boston Terrier on June 13, 2000 from his first owner. We know Nick was born December 25th, 1989, and hence his name; but the details of his lineage is unknown except that he is a Boston Terrier. Nick spent many days in the classrooms of Grace Miller Elementary School where the children enjoyed his happy and gentle nature. At school he played tag,  hide and go seek and fetch the ball. For five years he stared as "Max the Reindeer Dog" in the fifth grade production of The Grinch that Stole Christmas. Nick allowed the children to dress him in costume, including antlers and a Santa coat. Besides his happy life at home and with school children, Nick traveled extensively with his owner as far as Oregon and Arizona, and countless trips up and down the California coastline. His favorite food at home was roasted chicken prepared especially for him, and plain yogurt with blueberries. When traveling on the road he enjoyed dining on chicken at Jack in the Box, and at Starbucks, he was always given doggie treats. His favorite destination was the beach at Corona Del Mar, where Nick enjoyed playing in the waves, searching the tide pools for crabs and snails (but he never caught any!) and relaxing in the sand. Every month Nick got to pick out a toy of his choice at one of the local pet stores. His favorite canine pals were Claire (beagle), Oliver (bichon frise) and Ladybug (toy silky terrier) and together they went to doggie daycare at Hair of the Dog in Claremont. Nick was a joy to everyone, even winning  "Most Friendly" and "Best Personality" awards at doggie daycare. Nick had a few unusual quirks, including an obsession with balls. He was once seen pushing a basketball down the middle of Baseline Road! Two years ago Nick suffered a heart attack, but with the excellent care of San Dimas Animal Hospital and his owners, Nick continued to live an active life. Sweet Nick passed away December 22, 2009 due to kidney failure.
